Much like Textreme makes writing text feel like an arcade game, I was wondering if there have been any stabs at a text editor which aims to simulate writing on paper. You could do stuff like

  • Drawing out each character entered realistically: you watch the character being drawn instead of the whole character appearing instantly (fonts don't store stroke order and direction, right? so this would take a lot of work)
  • Nifty dynamics, like flowiness for gel pens vs rollerball pens, or pencil nib width changing with stroke direction
  • Limit the rate at which characters can appear, so people have to wait for the "hand" to catch up occasionally and don't get too ahead of themselves (typing is faster than writing for most text editor users, I'm guessing)
  • A nice curated selection of handwriting-like fonts and paper-like backgrounds
  • Nice subtle, "tactile" sounds that you'd expect, like the writing implement moving on the paper, the scrape of the arm moving across the paper for newlines, paper scronching or shuffling for new pages, etc

I know this isn't really the right forum for this, but it is the best fit I could find. Does anyone know of anything that implements even one of these ideas? (This is incredibly hard to Google for because the result space is so dominated by stuff relating to traditional editors.) Does this appeal to anyone else?

Delightfully addictive! :)
